Bio

I have been writing, researching and travelling full time since finishing my masters in Middle Eastern history in 2008.

My masters thesis was on the British Mandate for Palestine and, driven by my own research and my own ignorance, I produced a short introductory film about that period of colonial history.

In 2009/10, I joined the ill-fated Gaza Freedom March. We didn't make it as far as Gaza, but I was able to join Egyptian union leaders and others in demonstrating against the then President Mubarak's police state. I later travelled independently to Israel and the West Bank, to see for myself the modern political situation there.

On my return, I gave talks to the National Union of Journalists and at Braziers Park College. I have since written a short film on modern Zionism, as well as publishing review articles about anti-semitism and the political future of the Middle East, particularly in the light of the revolutionary events of 2011.

My academic research has also informed my fiction. My first novel, unpublished, takes as its subject the British Mandate for Palestine and my second, which is currently being edited, is about the Arab Spring of 2011. Both have a strong focus on British history and politics, where it concerns the Middle East.

When I am not writing or researching, I am frequently to be not found vagabonding across the country, whether hitch-hiking to the mountains or cycling 4,110 miles around the entire coast of Britain, there's always one adventure or another on the go.
